About the Course
Situated on the secluded 400-acre Deer Island, amidst the Harris Chain of Lakes part of Oklawaha River Basin in Tavares, Florida, Deer Island Country Club is home to Central Florida’s only island golf course. It’s a semi-private, 18-hole golf course offering breathtaking views of Lake Dora and Lake Beauclaire. Florida’s largest chain of natural lakes makes this a paradise for golfers, boaters and nature lovers. Deer Island homeowners and guests enjoy the Island lifestyle and its focus in every direction — water and golf. Island style living can be seductive and enchanting. And our golf is the main attraction on the island!
Deer Island Golf and Lake Club (as it was called when first opened for play in 1994) was designed by renowned golf architect Joe Lee. We’re proud to offer you one of the jewels in “Gentleman” Joe Lee’s design crown over 250 total. His courses make golfers smile.
Joe Lee believed that a day of golf should be enjoyable; he wasn’t interested in terrorizing everyday golfers. Undulating greens, strategically-located visible hazards and unique bunkers are part of his trademark design — all are realized here on Deer Island as it carves its way through the environmentally-protected Florida wetlands.
